Sea snake at Montgomery Reef

Water escaping off Montgomery Reef

Montgomery Reef

Cocktails on an emerging sand island Montgomery Reef

Montgomery Reef is a spectacular example of these huge tides and we arrived to meet the falling tied.   A massive reef system appears from the ocean as the tired drops away a raging torrent of water will cascade off the top of the reef.  Miles of surrounding reel will appear to rise out of the ocean.  This phenomenon is due to the tide dropping faster than the water trapped on top of the reef can escape.  Waters around the reef are rich in marine life dugong, turtles, Manta rays, reef sharks and sea snakes.
