108 Yaks - Australian Premiere
This new documentary, “108 Yaks: a Journey of Love and
Freedom”, will have its Australian premiere at Vajrayana Institute in Sydney on
Saturday, 18th August. It will be preceded by a short slide show and update
about Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s Animal Liberation Sanctuary in Nepal, by the project
coordinators Tania Duratovic and Phil Hunt.
"My whole point of doing this animal liberation is to
dedicate for Rinpoche and the gurus’ long lives. But also it is to promote
animal liberation, to tell people what animal liberation is and how it should
be done..."
Non-Profit Organisation Enlightenment for the Dear Animals is a project aimed at
helping people to benefit animals. As fellow sentient beings, animals are not
just creatures to whom we should do no harm, they are beings who also have the
potential for Enlightenment.
Recently Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Spiritual Director of the FPMT,
has called on his students to become vegetarian or eat less meat to help reduce
the suffering to animals, including cattle involved in the live export industry
(follow this link to read his full account). Every year Australia exports
around 4 million live sheep to the Middle East and over half a million cattle
to South East Asia. Not only do these sentient creatures suffer on the long
journeys on overcrowded ships with many not surviving the trip, but their
treatment at their destination is appalling.
Most of the countries these animals are exported to do not
have a single law protecting their welfare. As such, most sheep and cattle have
their throats cut whilst fully conscious and suffer extended, distressing and
painful deaths whilst waiting animals watch in terror.
Enlightenment for the Dear Animals is a project aimed at helping people to benefit animals. As fellow sentient beings, animals are not just creatures to whom we should do no harm, they are beings who also have the potential for Enlightenment.
